Power of attorney

A power of attorney lets someone act for you when you cannot be present, for example to sell property, manage a bank account or handle an inheritance. To be valid in another country it usually needs to be notarised, sometimes translated, and then apostilled or legalized.

We help members of the diaspora give a power of attorney for use in Jamaica, and Jamaican residents give one for use abroad. Where required, we also arrange stamping and registration with the relevant authorities.

Common uses

  • Buying or selling property
  • Bank and pension matters
  • Inheritance and estate administration
  • Company and business matters
  • Vehicle registration and transfer

Common questions

Can I sign a power of attorney while living abroad?

Yes. You sign before a notary where you live, the document is apostilled or legalized there, and we take care of translation and any steps in Jamaica.

Do you draft the power of attorney?

We prepare the document based on the receiving authority's template or your attorney's instructions. For legal advice on its content we refer you to an attorney-at-law.
